Kale is packed with lutein and zeaxanthin, nutrients that can help reduce your risk of developing age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and cataracts. If you’re not willing to get on the kale-loving bandwagon just yet, consider eating other types of green, leafy vegetables. You can try different recipes that include spinach, romaine lettuce, collards and turnip greens.
Salmon is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which help reduce the risk of developing AMD. Any food rich in omega-3 fatty acids such as tuna, sardines and halibut can help prevent the development of eye diseases. Consult your eye doctor, optometrist or eye specialist regarding other foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids
Oranges and other citrus are an excellent source of vitamin C, which boosts the immune system and can combat or at least delay the development of AMD and cataracts. Not a fan of citrus fruits? Try munching on strawberries and peaches instead. Consume dishes loaded with red peppers or tomatoes if you’re craving for something savory.
4. Black-Eyed Peas
Black-eyed peas and other legumes such as kidney beans, lima beans and peanuts all contain zinc. This essential mineral can help protect your eyes from some of the harmful effects of harsh light. Oysters, poultry and lean, red meat are all great sources of zinc as well.
